Home Composting

Home composting is an easy way to turn your garden and kitchen waste into a useful product for your garden, while at the same time reducing the amount of waste in your bin.

There are a number of ways to produce compost and there is a method available to suit most lifestyles. The best method for you will depend on what you want to compost – whether you want to compost only kitchen waste, only garden waste or both food and garden waste, and whether you have a garden which produces large volumes of garden waste.

You can use the menu on the right to navigate through the home composting web pages.

If you have a specific problem with your compost use Doctor Compost to identify the cause of your troubles and find a suitable solution.

Compost bins are available at a reduced price to residents in the following Council areas where WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) home composting schemes are running: Some local authorities run their own home composting schemes.
